How to determine if PVC fantasy color wrapping film is aging?
1. Identify aging by observing changes in appearance.
Aging membrane materials will exhibit obvious abnormalities in appearance; pay close attention to color and gloss. Originally vibrant colors will become dull and lackluster, even turning yellow, gray, or fading unevenly. Fine cracks may appear on the surface, or spots and fogging may occur, losing its original smooth texture. In some severely aged membrane materials, the edges may curl, become brittle, and break; even a light touch may cause debris to fall off. These changes in appearance are direct signs of aging.
2. Judging the state by sensing changes in touch.
Touching the membrane material can help determine if it has aged. Normal membrane materials feel soft and resilient, and quickly rebound after being pressed. If the membrane feels hard and brittle to the touch, with significantly reduced elasticity, no rebound after pressing, or permanent dents, it indicates aging. Some aged membrane materials may also exhibit abnormal adhesion; either the adhesion may be greatly weakened, making it unable to adhere to objects, or the adhesion may have deteriorated, causing the membrane to stick together and be difficult to separate.
3. Test basic performance and verify aging.
The degree of aging can be further confirmed through simple performance tests. Take a small piece of membrane material and try to stretch it gently. Normal membrane material can stretch moderately and is not easily broken; aged membrane material is prone to breakage when stretched, or cannot return to its original shape after stretching, and its toughness is greatly reduced. A folding test can also be performed. After repeated folding, creases will quickly appear at the folds of aged membrane material, or even crack directly, while normal membrane material can recover well after folding, and the creases are not obvious.
4. Use storage conditions to aid in judgment.
Membrane material aging is closely related to the storage environment; considering storage conditions can improve the accuracy of assessment. If membrane materials are stored for extended periods in environments with high temperatures, direct sunlight, humidity, or corrosive gases, the aging rate will significantly accelerate. Checking the storage time, if it exceeds the normal shelf life and is accompanied by the aforementioned changes in appearance, feel, or performance, aging can be generally confirmed. Even if there are no obvious abnormalities in appearance, improper long-term storage can lead to internal performance degradation, requiring careful use.
